Random Passage: “Decorate wastebaskets according to room they will be in and make something pretty out of odds and ends. Basket is made of five gallon ice cream containers which may be obtained by asking for them at ice cream fountains. If these are not available, use potato chip cartons or buy inexpensive cardboard paint buckets. Wash them thoroughly and dry well. Paint inside and out with a flat vinyl or latex paint.” (from Wastebaskets by Marilyn Estes Smith)
Notes: In this issue, the editors of The Workbasket took advantage of the approaching U.S. Bicentennial by putting a photo of a lovely blonde miss sitting in a cozy, traditionally decorated den — seemingly in the middle of stitching an American flag a la Betsy Ross. Inside, several projects illustrate the twin ’70s vogues of the do-it-yourself project and hideous fashion — most glaringly, the flamboyant gold and black knitted poncho pictured on page 15. An entertaining history of “The Workbasket” can be read here.
